Tell me about the toughest network fault you've resolved. What was your method?
They're scoring the process: layer-by-layer elimination, evidence at each step, and knowing when to roll back versus push on.
Describe a change you made that caused an outage, or nearly did. What did your rollback look like?
Owning a near-miss with a tested rollback plan and a tightened change process reads far better than claiming a clean record.
Tell me about keeping users or management informed during a network outage.
Cadence and honesty: what's broken, who's affected, next update time. Show you communicated before being chased.
A user can't reach a critical application. Walk me through your troubleshooting, layer by layer.
Start at the bottom and say what each test rules out: link, IP config, ping gateway, DNS, traceroute, firewall rules, then the app itself.
A site reports high latency. How do you find the source?
Monitoring first, guesswork never: baseline comparison, interface utilisation and errors, traceroute per segment, recent changes.
Design the network for a new branch office — addressing, VLANs, WAN links, failover.
A compact design question: show sensible segmentation, redundancy proportionate to the site's importance, and documentation as part of done.
You suspect a recent change caused an intermittent fault, but you can't reproduce it. What do you do?
Show patience and instrumentation: correlate timestamps with the change log, add targeted monitoring, and set a trap rather than thrash.
Why networking as your specialism?

Describe a production incident you were involved in. What did you do first?
Order matters: mitigate, communicate, then root-cause. Finish with the fix that stopped it happening again.
Walk me through a technical decision you made that you later reversed.
Reversing well is the skill. Show what new information arrived, how fast you acted on it, and what the reversal cost.
