Care & Social Work interview questions (2026)
Care & Social Work interviews in the UK cover 8 roles on this site, from activities coordinator to youth worker. Below: how these interviews are run in 2026, the questions asked across the whole sector, and a page of real questions for each role.
How Care & Social Work interviews are run in 2026
- Care interviews are values-based and often fast: a short phone screen then one face-to-face with the manager, with safeguarding scenario questions asked at every level.
- Providers recruit against CQC expectations — expect questions echoing the five key questions (safe, effective, caring, responsive, well-led) and the Care Certificate standards.
- Local authority social work interviews are structured and scored, frequently with a written case exercise or presentation alongside the panel.

Questions asked across Care & Social Work
What does person-centred care mean to you in practice?
Start with the person, not the diagnosis: their preferences, routines and choices driving the support. One real example beats the textbook definition.
You notice unexplained bruising on someone you support. What do you do?
Record what you see factually, report to your manager or safeguarding lead the same shift, don't investigate yourself. Going to the colleague first fails the question.
Someone you support discloses abuse and begs you not to tell anyone. How do you respond?
Kind but clear: you can't keep it secret, you'll only tell the people who must know. Listen, don't press for detail, record their words, report immediately.
A person refuses their medication or personal care. What do you do?
Their right to refuse comes first: explore why, try again later, never sneak or force, and report and record the refusal so the team can act.
You suspect a colleague is being rough or dismissive with someone they support. What do you do?
This is safeguarding, not loyalty: report it to the manager or safeguarding lead with facts. Mention whistleblowing routes if nothing changes.
Tell us about a time you supported someone's independence rather than doing things for them.
Doing WITH, not for — the extra ten minutes letting them button the shirt. Name what they kept because you waited.
