Product & Design interview questions (2026)
Product & Design interviews in the UK cover 8 roles on this site, from business analyst to ux researcher. Below: how these interviews are run in 2026, the questions asked across the whole sector, and a page of real questions for each role.
How Product & Design interviews are run in 2026
- Portfolio and case-study presentations remain the core of design loops, and PM interviews still run on live product cases — but AI literacy is now probed inside every round rather than as a separate stage.
- Live exercises are common: whiteboard design challenges for designers, backlog or prioritisation scenarios for product roles, and facilitation exercises for agile roles.
- UK public-sector digital roles (GDS-style) interview against published frameworks — Success Profiles behaviours and DDaT role definitions — with panels who score against them explicitly.

Questions asked across Product & Design
Walk me through how you decide what to work on next when everything feels important.
Name a real framework you actually use — value versus effort, user impact, risk — then show it applied to one concrete call you made.
Tell me about something you shipped that missed. How did you know, and what did you do next?
The metric or signal that told you is half the answer. The other half is acting on it fast — iterate, relaunch or kill — without ego.
How do you bring evidence into a decision when opinions in the room are strong?
Show the move from opinion-versus-opinion to shared evidence: a quick test, user data, a prototype in front of real people.
Tell me about a time you changed a senior stakeholder's mind about a direction.
Respectful persistence plus evidence. Describe how you understood their concern first — you changed their mind by taking it seriously.
How do you know your work has succeeded once it's live? What do you actually measure?
Tie measures to the user outcome, not activity. One primary metric, a guardrail, and what you did when the numbers came back.
Tell me about the users of your last product. How did you actually get to know them?
Specifics prove contact: sessions you watched, calls you joined, verbatims you remember. Second-hand personas impress no one.
