Questions asked across Construction & Trades

Which cards and tickets do you hold — CSCS and any trade-specific ones — and are they all in date?

Bring the actual cards. Know every expiry date, and if something's lapsed, say what's booked to renew it — an expired ticket can't start on site.

Tell me about a time you spotted a hazard on site before it hurt someone. What did you do?

A real, small example is perfect: what you saw, making it safe or fencing it off, and telling the supervisor. Reporting is the part they're listening for.

You're told to crack on with a task you believe is unsafe. Talk me through exactly what you do.

Stop, say why calmly, suggest the safe alternative, and escalate if pushed. Employers are testing whether you'll actually refuse — say plainly that you would.

How do you use a RAMS — risk assessment and method statement — before starting a new task?

Show you actually read them: check the method matches the real conditions, raise it if it doesn't, and sign on only when you understand the controls.

Tell me about working alongside other trades on a tight programme. How did you keep out of each other's way?

Sequencing is the skill: talking to the other gangs, agreeing who's in the area when, flagging clashes to the site manager early rather than downing tools.

What's your experience of working at height, and what checks do you make before you go up?

Name the kit you've used — towers, MEWPs, edge protection — and the checks: scaff tag in date, harness inspected, weather. Specifics prove the habit.
